How will I feel after a reflexology treatment

What do most people feel after reflexology?

On the whole the first words that most people say straight after a treatment is… “I feel sooo relaxed”. Usually in a voice a lot lower than when they arrived! I always write down my clients first words after and the treatment ends. My favourite is “How is it even possible to feel this relaxed?”

A person can have various feelings and emotions come through for the next 24-48 hours after. And this very much depends on the client and what is happening in their life.

Many find that they immediately feel “Lighter, happier & brighter”. I have yet to meet anyone who feels anything but relaxed straight after a treatment. But what happens in the hours that follows throws in all sorts of emotions & physical feelings.

What should I avoid after reflexology

The body does some adjusting afterwards and we urge all clients to drink plenty of water. Avoid alcohol, caffeine & other stimulants while you go through the healing process. The reason to drink water is to flush out the toxins that we have been busy breaking down in your tissues.

Symptoms after reflexology to look out for.

Here are some of the symptoms to be mindful of :-

Headaches - If so drink more water!

Increased nasal congestion - This could be someone with sinus issues that are now being flushed from the body.

Coughing / chestiness - Again we may have been loosening a mucus build up so this needs to be expelled.

Disturbed sleep pattern / dreams OR improved sleep.

Aches, pains stiffness in any joints or back

An increased need to pass water

A change in mood

A feeling of well-being.

If you experience any of these please note that they should pass within 24-48 hours.

What I do say to clients at The Interior Me is Reflexology gives your body what you need. So if you come away feeling exhausted, go with it, if you can don’t try and fight it. Just flop on the sofa and rest if possible. As this is what you clearly need. On the flip side I also get clients who bounce out and feel energised & rejuvenated. One client I am thinking of in particular felt emotionally drained before he came saying he felt overwhelmed by the simplest of tasks and just an hour later was telling me he was going home to organise & tidy up his office, something he hadn’t had the energy to do for some time. So listen to your body. Simply put, if you feel tired, rest if you feel energised go for it and do what you’ve been putting off. I have had both feelings from treatments while in different phases of my life.

Healing reaction

Sometimes people get what is called a healing crisis reaction. Which is where people temporarily feel worse before they begin to feel better. This is because during & after a treatment the toxins that have been released need to be expelled from the body causing an imbalance for 24-48 hours. However after this you may feel de-stressed, energised & relaxed & an overall feeling of well-being. A healing reaction is rare and usually indicates that a person may be unwell or having some emotional issues at the time of treatment.
